W
e are developing a new treatment group to help individuals with schizophrenia learn skills for increasing positive emotions and experiences. Group members learn to notice everyday positive things, mindfully experience emotions, identify personal strengths, learn methods to rethink negative experiences, and develop meaningful life goals. Research has shown that these skills help to increase positive experiences and well-being. The treatment groups provide an environment for people with schizophrenia to discuss their experiences and learn skills to live happy and healthy lives.
Group Information
The group lasts for 6 weeks and meets for 90 minutes once a week. Before the group starts, group members are asked to participate in an individual research interview that will include questions about the signs and symptoms that are sometimes associated with schizophrenia. After completing the group sessions, group members are asked to participate in two additional research interviews, including one interview 3-months after the group has ended. Each of these research interviews will last between 2 – 4 hours.
Group Enrollment
We offered two groups in early 2011 and hope to offer more group treatment opportunities in the future. We are NOT currently recruiting for this study at this time, but you may contact us at 510-643-4098 or email us at UCBGroupStudies@gmail.com
