Bipolar Disorder
Welcome to the bipolar disorder research and treatment pages at UC Berkeley Mental Health. Professors Allison Harvey, Sheri Johnson, and their colleagues are working on research to understand bipolar disorder. Their work includes projects on why symptoms happen, how bipolar disorder relates to creativity and positive outcomes, and how to improve treatments for this disorder.
In our research on why symptoms occur, we work to understand how factors like sleep, life events, social support, and emotion regulation influence how people feel. We are very interested in understanding how some people with this disorder recover and stay well for long periods of time. We want to use knowledge in these areas to develop treatment programs. We develop and test treatments that can be added to medications, helping people gain better control over their sleep and emotion regulation.
